No Belkin Money for Us...

On Friday I received this letter from the Belkin Settlement people:

We have received your Refund Notice along with the documentation that you recently submitted for the Shannahoff v. Belkin, Case No. CV 06-1474-GPS settlement. Based on the documentation provided to the Settlement Administrator, it has been determined your claim is invalid due to the following reason:

The purchase of your Belkin product was after the March 31, 2006 deadline. In the process of obtaining court approval of the Settlement Agreement, it was determined that product packaging for Belkin Wireless Products sold after March 31, 2006 did not contain the allegedly false or misleading statements as claimed by the plaintiff. Therefore, persons who purchased a Belkin Wireless Product after March 31, 2006 are not entitled to receive a refund or promotional discount.

Bummer!

Belkin Class Action Suit, part II

Today I received a Belkin wireless refund notice, relating to the class action suit I wrote about back in April of last year. It says we are eligible for a full refund on up to two Belkin wireless products. Turns out the two Belkin wireless products we own are qualified for the settlement, and yes I still have the original receipts after all this time. So after I get the form mailed in tomorrow or Tuesday, we should have our refund back within 12 weeks. Yay!

It's sort of timely, because we've been having trouble with our Belkin wireless gateway for the last several months. For the most part it works, but every now and then it just decides to not work, usually just for a few moments, but increasingly those few moments seem to be getting longer and longer. So, we'll put the almost $100 we get back from Belkin and put it towards a nice shiny new Apple Time Capsule.

Belkin Class Action Suit

Today I received an email telling me about a class action suit against Belkin for wireless products sold between October 2002 and February 2007. I guess Belkin forgot to mention on their packaging that data transfer rates could be lower than what they claimed, so now they are being sued. We bought a couple of Belkin wireless products last year (a router and a notebook card), and it turns out they both qualify for a full refund, which will amount to just under $100.

But what I find truly amazing is that we still have the receipts, AND I was able to find them in less than 30 seconds. I am not much of a receipt-keeper, and those receipts I do keep, I donʻt usually take the time to organize.

Anyway, if you purchased any Belkin wireless products during the last five years, make sure you go check out the details of the class action suit:
