I almost never get to be in the picture since I'm always the one taking them. Kenji had to make a funny sound to get Musubi to open her eyes wide, hehe.

Yep, we ran out of candy again. This time we must have had like 150 kids come to the door... at least that's about how many pieces of candy we thought we had.
This year we had big purple wizard guy answering the door. Most of the kids thought he was funny, but some thought he was scary. A Grim Reaper chick also answered the door, but she was too scary so we didn't let her open the door too often.
After running out of candy, big purple wizard guy was spotted playing karaoke!
We also found a little Musubi kitty hanging out with a green glowy pumpkin. :)

The kitties say "Happy Birthday!" to a certain someone who happens to have a birthday today, and who was up half the night last night singing karaoke in his living room. =)

Yep, so anyway the Sleep Number people were having a factory outlet sale, and that's why we decided to get our new bed at this time. We probably saved about $400 over what we would have paid for the same model if we purchased it through the store.
We could have paid a guy $150 or something like that to deliver and put the bed together for us, but we said nah to that. So today, after I finished delivering books to old folks, I went to work assembling the bed. First to you have to put the foundation together:
Those are the support beams - they are all just made out of very heavy duty plastic. Once the support beams are together, you attach the legs and put the panels on top:
Next you lay the mattress flat and remove the top. You place long foam blocks all around the outer edge, and then lay the air chambers inside, and attach the air chambers to the air pump:
That zig zaggy piece of foam laying on top of the air chambers is the piece you stuff between the two air chambers once they are inflated. While I was waiting for the air chambers to inflate, look who I found, making herself comfy in the folded up mattress top:
One chamber filled...
2 chambers filled...
After the chambers are full, you put a big piece of foam on top, and then zip on the mattress top and make the bed!
Yay! Now we just need to get a nice bed-skirt. And boy will Kenji be surprised when he gets home and sees a new bed after being away for a week.

I posted this just for Kenji, since he's out of town. Musubi has been scared of this bag for some reason. She always approaches it very gingerly and then runs away. Well I guess she's not scared of it anymore.

Whenever I do housework, Spammy likes to help. If I fold laundry, that usually means that Spammy will lie down on top of the t-shirts and turtlenecks that I am about to fold. When I change the sheets on the bed, he thinks his role is to lie down on the sheetless mattress. So I put the sheet right on top of him and tuck it in... which makes for a rather lumpy bed.
This time, Musubi saw Spammy helping, so she decided to help too, in her own special way:

Yesterday I vacuumed the house. When I moved the living room furniture aside to vacuum the floors beneath, I found the usual treasure trove of kitty cat toys that went missing since the last time I vacuumed under the living room furniture. Only one of the toys was actually purchased intentionally as a cat toy; the rest were stolen orange juice and milk jug caps, rubber bands, little paper cranes, and an assortment of tiny stuffed animals that came from my former workplace in Hawaii. One of those little animals is a moose, and he happens to be Musubi's favorite toy. She named him Moosoobi.
Spammy and Musubi definitely have their own favorite toys - toys that one kitty will play with like crazy, yet the other kitty is disinterested. Moosoobi is one such toy. Spammy couldn't care less about Moosoobi, but Musubi will bat Moosoobi all around, and then pick him up and take care of him like he's a little kitten. As I type this post, Spammy has just dragged one of his favorite toys, Stick, all the way up the stairs and dropped it on the floor by my chair. I wrote about Stick in a previous post, back when Spammy would play fetch. It's funny that he drags Stick all over the house to us because he barely plays with it anymore when I pick it up and wiggle it for him. Yet he'll drag it up and down the stairs at least four times a day. Spammy also loves to play with Cowie, which used to be a cute little Gateway cow obtained at some trade show, but now is a dirty gray disgusting, half-torn to pieces cow. Like Stick, Spammy will pick Cowie up and carry him around. He also chucks him in the air and wrestles with Cowie from behind table legs and atop of scratching posts. Spammy also enjoys Fiber Optic Toy - another trade show giveaway. Fiber Optic Toy is a useless but fun bit of technology with a handle containing batteries and multiple colored LEDs
that illuminate the fiber optic strands that extend about four or five inches from the handle. When I wiggle Fiber Optic Toy, Spammy likes to chase it and grab it in his teeth and try to yank it out of my hand, which I usually let him do. Then he'll carry it to some place near or under the dining room table and wait for me to pick it up again so he can grab it from me.

Somewhere around the end of January is Spammy's half-birthday. We don't know Spammy's exact birthday, because unlike Musubi, he was not born at the shelter. Instead, he and his little litter-mates were dropped off at the shelter just days after they were born, which was at the very end of July 2005. So that makes Spammy one and a half years old.
It was also my birthday recently. I'm a bit older than one and a half. I'm more like 25 and 144 months old. You do the math.
Anyway, this evening, shortly after I got home from work, the UPS guy came to our door and he had a mystery box for us! The kitties and I opened it up, and this is what we found! We're not entirely sure who sent us this nice comfy kitty cat carrier, because the packing slip didn't say anything about who sent for it. But we have a sneaking suspicion who did. >:) The kitties and I say thank you very much! (Well, Spammy and Musubi say "prrrr prrr prrr bllllp! meow!", which means "thank you very much!")Musubi gave the kitty carrier a try too, and she also approves.
Musubi especially needs a sturdy kitty cat carrier because the last time she went to the vet to have her shots updated, she clean busted out of the cardboard carrier that we brought her home in from the shelter. It wasn't that the box was too small for her; rather, it was that she was too determined not to be in a box. At a traffic light, I had to stuff Musubi back into her box, and then drive with one hand holding the box shut, while the other hand took alternated between steering and shifting! Hopefully Musubi won't figure out how to use zippers...

Last weekend Kenji and I bought pumpkins to carve into Jack-O-Lanterns. Today, while we were sitting in Panera Bread having coffe and hot chocolate, I figured out what I was going to carve. So when we got home, I made a nice stencil for myself on the computer that I used to draw my design onto my pumpkin.
Have I mentioned that one of Spammy's new favorite foods is spaghetti squash? Well, while I was gutting my pumpkin this evening, I realized he must have a thing for all gourds. As soon as I started digging out the seeds and stringy sloppy pumpkin guts, Spammy went crazy begging me some. He was munching on the strands, and then he even tried to get inside my hollowed-out pumpkin to lick the insides. It was very silly.

Musubi just looked on, like the polite little kitty she is:
And here's my finished product!

The other day it was warm enough for me to open the window. Spammy and Musubi noticed a birdie walking around up on the very edge of our roof. So they both squatted in the window, wishing they could go catch the birdie. :)

It's been just a little over a year since we got Spammy and Musubi. Today was the first day I've caught them snuggled up together in a long time. Maybe because it's getting cold outside again.
See how big they are now compared to last October?

This morning I mentioned to Kenji that the next time we get cats we should name them Glen Miyashiro and Lori Yamaguchi. Frank Delima fans will understand. But we like our kitties and don't want to get new ones, so instead I decided to give Spammy and Musubi nicknames. So now i call Spammy Glen Miyashiro and Musubi is Lori Yamaguchi. :)

One of our favorite games that the kitties and I like to play is Sneak-Attack. That's when I sort of hide around a corner, and peek my head out every few seconds so they can see me. Then they "sneak up" on me till they are ready to come in for the kill. Except they aren't very sneaky. And they don't really kill me.
In this little movie, Spammy sneaks up on me from the bottom of the stairs, and then Musubi attacks me from inside the guest room. I removed the sound from Spammy's clip because he didn't have anything interesting to say, and so why make the filesize bigger. But Musubi did her cute little Musubi squeak-meow, so I left her sound in. Enjoy!
